Domestic Mail Services
(1) Letters

Other sizes are considered oversized. To send a letter,
put an appropriate stamp on the top right hand corner and
put it in the post or go to a post office.
(2) Post Cards
Post card require ¥50 stamps. Pre-stamped post cards
are available at the post office.

*Postage for general package is determined by a combination of
size and destination.
*You can send pudlications of any kind as printed matter
at lower rates.
*You can purchase boxes for mailing your parcels at your
local post office.

(4) Special Delivery
Urgent mail can be sent via special delivery, or sokutatsu.
It is best to request this service in person at your local
post office; however, you can also simply mark your envelope
in red with the symbol pictured below, apply the proper
postage,and mail the letter.

(5) Registered
Mail
For important documents, you can ask post office staff to
send your item as kakitome, or registered mail. The fee
for registered mail includes insurance.
Note: If you are not home when registered mail or a small
parcel that requires your signature or seal is delivered,
the item will be returned to the post office and a "Notice
of Non-Delivery" will be left in your mail box. The
item will be held at the post office for seven days. To
claim your mail, you can either pick up the item at the
post office (bring your seal and some identification) or
mail the Notice of Non-Deliver to the post office after
filling in the requested time and place of next delivery. |
