Unemployment benefit payments are granted to individuals who were enrolled in employment insurance and have left their jobs due to reasons such as retirement, company bankruptcy, or the completion of the term of an employment-contract. Unemployment benefit payments allow an individual to receive financial support while they search for new employment. To receive these benefit payments, you must submit your Certificate of Separation to Hello Work and be granted official status as “unemployed”.

Certificate of Separation (離職票 Ri-Shoku-Hyo) is a document you obtain from your employer which officially proves that you have left your employer.
