What is the procedure for obtaining Seikatsu Hogo (public assistance for livelihood protection) and what is the amount of support provided?

The application procedure for residents in Osaka City is as follows:

【Who should apply】
The applicant in person, or the person responsible for sustaining the applicant, or a family member living together with the applicant

【Where to apply】
To the Public Health and Welfare Center of the ward of your residence
※ Following application, the Public Health and Welfare Center will review the daily life situation, income, and other aspects of the applicant and family to examine if public assistance is necessary, and if so, the level of support appropriate for each case.
※ Your local Minsei-iin will be able to offer consulation and assistance regarding application for Seikatsu Hogo.

【Amount of support】
The support to be provided corresponds to the shortage of your household’s income in comparison to the minimum monthly living expenses determined by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.  (The calculation is based on the number and age of the persons in the household and other factors).
(For your reference) The minimum monthly living expenses for a typical household of three (male 33 years old, female 29 years old, and child 4 years old) living in a major city was calculated to be 150,113 yen (as of FY2015).
